Movie Review: DRIVE (2011)

It is of great understanding that I'm a huge fan of Ryan Gosling. And really, what woman wouldn't be? With his goood looks and dazzling charm, he's one of the most eligible bachelors in Hollywood. Even his dog is cool!

look at that mohawk going on!

Well, besides being incredibly gorgeous and having an awesome dog, the canadian guy has mad acting skills, and is actually considered by some one of today's best young actors. For those who believe he belongs in romantic movies like The Notebook, the thriller Drive proves them wrong.

Directed by Nicolas Widing Refn, Drive is based on a novel with the same name written by James Sallis. It follows a Hollywood stunt driver (Gosling) that moonlights as a getaway driver as he accidently steps into the East Coast's mafia's business, by participating in what seemed like a simple robbery in order to help a lady friend, played by the also stunning Carey Mulligan.

The movie is very catching and has some pretty violent scenes, which are great in contrast with the Driver's calmness. Gosling plays a man of few words, and, still,  you can fully understand what the character means and feels in each sequence.

Another amazing aspect of the movie is the soundtrack, mostly by Cliff Martinez, which has an 80's feel to it and fits perfectly with the photography.

Overall, Drive is a great movie, with a bit of romance, drama and action, all extremely well played out. If you weren't already a fan of Ryan Gosling, this ought to make you one!

(5 OUT OF 5)

Refn rightfully won Best Director at the Cannes
Film Festival and the movie won a series of other awards in other festivals, which you can check out here.
